A traditional starter in Japanese restaurants, both in the US and Japan. Edamame is the soybean, just before ripening, and typically served in the pod as an appetizer. Also can be served in salads or other dishes removed from the pod. Generally boiled in salted water, they may also have other seasoning added, such as these did. Unsure what exactly these were seasoned with, but it was a little more flavorful than typical table salt.
